Ubiquity

[Interviewer] What do you hope your legacy is?

[Kanye ‘Ye’ West] To be forgotten.

The Ode To Culture project is an attempt to build culture from the messes apparent in twenty-first century America. Unlike any other branded movements focused on change in a specific domain, OTC is a personal reflection, subject to each person’s experiences, on what local needs we can serve through the organic invitation to dialogue and creativity. The spirit we call on at the conclusion of each prompt is boundless and eternal, not subject to the narrow agendas we may be tempted to execute here and now.  Often, a prompt will go unanswered, a seed of thought waiting for that spirit to water and excite us to full understanding and action on such a topic as the prompt hinted at, taking it farther and deeper than we could try to fit into words.

To allow that spirit to take our works beyond our own hands and lives, we have to submit to the higher purposes of our actions. If we serve God, we trust him to accept our sacrifices toward his purposes, regardless of our expectations.

“We are merely gardeners, planting seeds and pulling weeds.”

Chad Donahoe

As you may have realized, I have been inconsistent in delivering prompts for OTC over the last few months. I’ve been balancing the busiest workload with the most personal responsibilities and the weight of it all had negatively affected my attitude for several months – until, at last, it didn’t.  The angst that wore me out over the last year didn’t ease up because I got less busy; I stopped expecting to be acknowledged for any of it. For us to transcend “content” and contribute to “culture”, we have to accept being ubiquitous.

The thread is open. Create boldly, and may the Spirit guide us all
